European Directive: 95/28/EC -- Flame retardant testing of automotive interior materials, fire protection testing

European Directive: 95/28/EC -- Flame retardant testing of automotive interior materials, fire protection testing

95/28/EC – Testing of combustion properties of automotive interior materials – Introduction
EC Directive 95/28/EC relates to “the burning behaviour of materials used in the interior construction of certain categories of motor vehicles”, and is intended to ensure that they meet fire safety standards.
European Directive 95/28/EC "Combustion Properties of Automotive Interior Materials" is used to ensure that automotive materials comply with fire safety standards
95/28/EC is applicable to the determination of combustion properties (combustion, combustion rate and droplets) of interior materials of passenger cars carrying more than 22 people.
95/28/EC - Automotive interior material combustion performance test is used to determine the material combustion performance of the following 3 parts
Horizontal burning test of materials
Droplet testing of materials
Vertical burning test of materials

95/28/EC - Testing of combustion properties of automotive interior materials: Horizontal combustion determination

of application: The following products must comply with 95/28/EC horizontal combustion performance requirements

  • seat cushions and accessories

  • Bushing

  • insulation materials

  • insulation materials

  • and accessories

95/28/EC Horizontal combustion performance requirements for automotive interior materials

  • burning rate does not exceed 100mm per minute

  • flame goes out before reaching the test point

95/28/EC – Testing of combustion properties of automotive interior materials: droplet determination

of application: The following products must comply with 95/28/EC droplet test requirements

  • roof material

  • top bushing
