FMVSS 302 - Automotive Interior Materials Combustion Test

FMVSS 302 - Automotive Interior Materials Combustion Test

FMVSS 302 Flame retardant test of automotive interior materials, fire test - standard name

  • FMVSS 302 Flammability of materials used in the occupant compartments of motor vehicles

  • FMVSS 302 Combustion test of vehicle interior materials

FMVSS 302 Automotive interior material flame retardant test, fire test - standard analysis

FMVSS 302 specifies the fire performance requirements for vehicle interior materials, with the purpose of reducing deaths and injuries caused by vehicle fires, especially fires caused by fire sources such as matches and cigarettes.

FMVSS 302 is suitable for passenger cars, utility vehicles, trucks and buses.

FMVSS 302 Flame retardant test of automotive interior materials, fire test - test method

             FMVSS 302 sample requirements:

Sample size and quantity: 102mm × 356mm × thickness (the thickness of the sample actually used in automobiles, but not larger than 13mm. If it is larger than 13mm, it must be cut into 13mm.) At least 5 samples, if along different directions If there are different burning speeds, at least 5 samples in each direction must be sampled in different directions. If the size of the material does not meet the test requirements, a sample must be made that meets the test requirements.

FMVSS 302 test requirements:

1. The sample does not burn, or the horizontal burning speed of the flame on the sample does not exceed 102mm/min.
Note: When the surface of the sample is cut, this determination requirement does not apply to testing the horizontal flame burning speed of the surface);

2. If the sample stops burning for less than 60 seconds from the start of the test, and the damaged length of the sample does not exceed 51mm from the start of the test, it is considered to meet the requirements of FMVSS302.
(Note: The starting position of timing is 38mm from the ignition end. When the fire reaches this position, timing starts)
