            FAR25.853 45° combustion test - Introduction

Certain components used in cargo holds and luggage compartments must be tested using both the 45° burning test and the vertical burning test. The ignition source for the 45° test is the same as the horizontal combustion test. The test was conducted in a non-ventilated chamber, and the average of three measurements was used as the result.

FAR25.853 45° combustion test - test method

The number of test specimens used for the test is 3, and the thickness is the minimum thickness used. The specimen is placed at 45°. Marking lines are engraved at 292mm and 38mm from the edge of the applied flame. Combustion test with ignition source at the same level. The flame application time is 30s.
Test the following:
-Smoldering time
Burning time

material flame retardant testing, fire testing – other relevant standards

  • standard: ABD 0031 - airbus fire testing – flame, smoke and toxicity

  • standard smoke test: BSS7238 fire testing to smoke density

  • standard toxicity test: BSS7239 fire testing to toxicity

  • standard smoke density: ASTM E 662 fire testing to Smoke Density
