What is a fire propagation apparatus?
A fire propagation apparatus is a device used to measure the rate at which flames spread across the surface of a material. This apparatus is crucial for testing the fire resistance and safety of various materials, particularly those used in construction, textiles, and transportation industries.
1. 1Key Test Results:
--The main measurement parameters are ignition time (Tign),
--mass loss rate (m),
--chemical (Qchem) heat release rate,
--convective (Qc) heat release rate,
--effective heat of combustion (EHC),
--and smoke generation rate.
The scope of the test is various materials, components and end products as well as various polymer materials, but not suitable for explosive objects.
1.2 FPA has 4 test methods:
1) Ignition test method: place the sample horizontally. Apply a certain radiant heat flux from the outside until the sample catches fire, and determine the time required for fire;
2) Combustion test method: by measuring the chemical (Qchem) and convective (Qc) heat release rate, mass loss rate (m) to determine the effective combustion heat (EHC) of a laterally placed sample;
3) Pyrolysis test method: under different external radiant heat fluxes, the mass loss rate (m) produced by the material is measured, and the heat of vaporization (ΔHg) of a laterally placed sample material is determined. Test with at least five values of external radiant heat flux.
4) Fire propagation test method: For vertically placed samples, it is used to determine the chemical (Qchem) heat release rate generated during the upward propagation of the flame and the combustion process.
1.3 The test results of Flame Propagation Apparatus (FPA) can evaluate the unique flammability of materials, and provide the necessary basis for flame propagation speed and fire development model, risk assessment, architectural and product design, and material research and development.
2. Compliant standards:
2.1 Comply with ISO12136-2011 "Reaction to fire tests — Measurement of material properties using a fire propagation apparatus" standard;
2.2 Comply with ASTM E2058-2013 "Standard Test Methods for Measurement of Material Flammability Using a Fire Propagation Apparatus (FPA)" standard.
2.3 Comply with FM4910-2004 "Cleanroom Materials Flammability Test Protocol" standard
